Follow the Light

Shivering, hungry, exhausted and lost, Jasper tried to get his bearings by the dimming sky.

The east darkened first. He turned in a slow circle, decided, and headed south–he hoped.

He didn’t know how he’d come to this situation. His head throbbed, and there was blood running down his cheek. Did he fall? Did someone hit him? He just didn’t know.

Glancing upward, he noticed the light in the distance. Was it a lighthouse? A church steeple?

It didn’t matter. It meant possible help, warmth, maybe even food.

He kept walking.
