“We must send a picture of this immediately!” stated Zing. “This is important. Our scientists must analyze it.”
Zang paced with care around it, gingerly touching now and then and watching the wheels spin to nowhere. “I don’t think it does anything,” he said.
“Oh, it must! See how the smaller discs sparkle and pulse. It’s probably recording us! We should hide!” Zing was terrified.
Zang shrugged. “But it can’t GO anywhere! If it is transmitting our voices or images, whoever receives it will see only Earth children looking at an odd structure. I don’t think it’s harmful.”
Zing trembled.

Dear Linda,
Whimsical piece. I love children’s imaginations. They are children, right? Cute story.

You know, I’m really not sure yet. They haven’t quite taken shape in my mind. Maybe they’re just very good at disguises 🙂
Thanks, Rochelle. You are always an encouragement.

I love the way Zing and Zang’s characters are at odds with each other. I can picture them pacing around and cowering, in turns. Round and round. Great piece, Linda.

Thanks, Kelvin. They’re slowly developing in my imagination, but I’m not pushing it.

I think they would have it no other way, Linda. Just let them prod and poke about for a while. They’ll come round, I’m sure of it.

I love the way you’re gradually developing these two aliens. Cowardly Zing is a wonderful creation to demythologise fear of the alien.

You’ve created a good “main character and foil” scene. Reminds me of a situation I saw enacted for awhile between two people, the intrepid/leader and the mouse/ follower.

I watched a film called ‘Arrival’ yesterday, with two friendly aliens. Your two made me think of them.

Aah, Zing and Zang are back. I always visualize them as alien spies living among us as children. So I look at all kids around me with suspicion 🙂

I know what Rochelle means about them possibly being children, or at least having a child like fascination and fear of the world. Nicely done

Thanks, Lynn. They’re developing slowly for me, kind of letting it happen without forcing it. Fun 🙂

This was the perfect prompt for another tale from Zing and Zang. I am reminded of how my dogs approach new things – one tentative the other like a bull in a china shop.

Thanks for observing that. In 100 words, it’s a challenge to convey everything, isn’t it ?
