About

“I’m a writer!”  It sounds so glamorous, doesn’t it?    Let me tell you, the people I’ve read about who truly are writers love what they do, but it’s no walk in the park!  Blood, toil, sweat, and tears, yes.  Dancing through the daisies, no.

As many people have wisely said, there are two things you must  do if you want to be a writer.  You have to read a lot, and you have to write.  Write. Write. Write some more.

The reading part is easy.  So many books, so little time.  bookstairs

The writing part, I’m learning, is not quite to easy. This blog is one of my efforts to eliminate my excuses, to motivate myself to write every day, to constantly improve my style.  My biggest fear?  Rejection, of course!

On to more practical things.

I’m  76.  I’ve been married for 54 years.  I have four children, nine grandchildren. Since I graduated from college, I’ve been a full-time mom, a substitute teacher, a full-time teacher, and a part-time teacher.  That pretty much covers the teaching aspect.   When I was 50, I went back to school and earned a master’s degree that allows me to do private practice counseling.  I worked in a Christian counseling office three days each week. I retired when I was 72.

So.  The wisdom is that you should write about what you know.  I know about growing up in a parsonage; about moving a lot when I was growing up; about learning to make do without very much money; about putting myself through college, marrying a really, really good guy, and then the mom/teacher/counselor stuff.

Frankly?  Right now, I have no idea where this blog is going to take me.  Should be an interesting journey.

  1. Writing has its perks. First and foremost, the glamorous title like you said:)! The overwhelming surge of emotions and feelings come to a close second. When you breathe life into random words and witness their bewitching transformation, it’s magical isn’t it!? Such poignancy. Such blossoming. Aaah I must stop. I tend to get emotional on this topic. Great about page by the way. I will be hovering around here now:)

    1. Thanks again! I’m very blessed that when I do talk about my faith on this new blog, I get lots of good feedback. And many who have “met” me here are now following my Bible study blog, as well. All good.

  2. I just realised i have not commented on your about page though I have been fan of your writing style. I regularly read your response to the daily post prompts and do I have to mention how much I like those straight forward ones. The simplicity of you and your blog appeals me so much. Take care, Soul.

    1. Thank you so much. I do try to keep it simple 🙂 My days are so full that I just haven’t had time to check in on everyone who has followed. I need to set up some kind of system, though, and get that done. I think the follows, likes, and comments are so encouraging, and I want to return the favor wherever I can.

    1. Thank you so much. I truly appreciate every award that has come my way. All of them encourage me to keep writing, and maybe I’ll eve get the book finished. 🙂

While I value the awards, though, I have chosen not to participate any more. It’s just too time-consuming, and I hope you’ll understand.

We all fear rejection at some level, but writing should come from our heart, whether it is what everyone wants to read or something that only makes sense to you. I hope you manage to reach the level you are seeking. Nevertheless, from what I have read, you have a lovely writing style and I will be keeping an eye on your blog. 🙂

  7. Decided to take a look because I always enjoy browsing through blogs that use the same theme as I do (Love to see how people personalize it and make it their own). Decided to stick around for the writing 🙂 Looking forward to more of your posts 🙂

Starting from now (the moment I’ve found out about you and your blog) you are going to be my life example! Your about page is awesome, and I would so much like to live near you and come and visit for a nice cup of tea together. I believe you have so much to tell and I so much to listen.

  10. Hi Linda,
I looked for a contact page but didn’t see it, so I’ll leave my request here and hope you don’t mind. I enjoy your blog so much and would like to ask if you would be interested in being a guest blogger for the Cow Pasture Chronicles. Beginning the end of this month, I will be absent from my blog due to surgery and a lengthy recovery. I plan to rehash a few older posts but would also like to offer my readers quality, well-written posts from some of my favorite bloggers and writers. If you’re interested, you will find the Contributors Contact Page at the top of my blog. I look forward to hearing from you. I can be reached by email @ sheilagood52@gmail.com or through the contributor’s page. @sheilamgood at Cow Pasture Chronicles. Thanks.

  12. Dear Linda,

You have my undying respect. I’ve thought about going back to college but never did. I decided that the education I’ve received through research is more than I ever received in school. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. 😉 )
And, duh, just figured out “granonine”…gran of nine. Nice.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  14. Hello! I love your blog … it reminds me of me! I am almost 68 and retired, but I’m not done yet! People don’t understand, but I think you might! I finally took the plunge about a month ago and started a blog for about the same reasons as you. I am barely figuring it out. I will watch and learn!

  15. Linda, I am so glad to have found your blog this day! What a breath of fresh air you are! I adore that you are here – facing fears in the face – writing your heart out. And my goodness, what a beautiful heart (and writing talent) you have!

Congratulations for going back to school at 50 and for deciding to pursue a passion of yours. We victims of childhood sexual abuse need your love and devotion to the cause. God bless you for everything you do to help see people get freed from their emotional and traumatic prisons!

I too grew up in parsonages as a PK, moved constantly as a child and pursued Psychology in college from a deep desire to help others. I’m your newest, biggest fan 😀

All my love to you dear Linda. I pray you & your loved ones are well. I’ll be looking forward to reading more from you 🤗

    1. Holly, I slept way late this morning–fighting off a cold, I think, and yours was the first comment I saw—and I feel better already 🙂

How delightful to meet someone who so closely reflects my own life experience. Your words are so encouraging! I am delighted to add you to my followers, and hope to hear more from you.
