“Is it as cold up there as it is down here?”
“No, son. Humans couldn’t abide the cold we enjoy. They weren’t made for it.”
“I don’t think I was, either,” sighed the child. “Can they see us?”
“No, They have eyes that see only reflections, but not reality. They imagine they are the only beings who exist at their level.”
“How can that be?”
“They see only what they understand. What they don’t understand, they fear.”
“Wow. That’s no way to live.”
“Indeed not.”
There’s definitely more to seeing than meets the eyeball

Yes. Often, the words “I see” are meant to say, “I understand.” But do we? Really?

What they don’t understand, they fear…
You hit the nail on the head.

Thank you, Reena. So often, lack of understanding turns to fear turns to bullying turns to violence–all down through history.

I went to see the new Pandora movie yesterday and in it the Pandoran humanoids live both in the trees and have ways of staying under water for long periods of time. They have telepathic communication with the whale-like creatures and consider them part of the tribe. I like your imagination in this, Linda, and I think why the heck not. It’s as likely to be true as not true. Happy Holidays!

Oh my goodness, they could be all around me and I don’t know. If only they would let me see.

This is very different this week. Very philosophical. It reminds me of a video I saw in a course I’ve taken years ago where a buddhist nun was speaking about human perception and reflection. About our perception being only on the surface, reflecting, and having no idea whatsoever of what’s underneath it.

Reflections not reality: so many of us in that state of spiritual blindness. Well-told, Linda. Have a Christmas full of blessing!

I’d love to explore this world more. In the end, I wonder if their judgement ends up as cloudy as ours.

Hard to say. Living in the icy world of reality may give them clearer vision, but it could also blind them to warmer emotions.

We could learn much about ourselves from them if only it was possible.

Unfortunately mankind is flawed but it all serves some kind of an ultimate purpose

Oh I love the questions here. Who and what are they and why can’t the humans see them. Fascinating piece!

Dear Linda,
Yep, that about sizes up humans. Nicely done. (And a child shall lead them. )

Very poignant. Fear and lack of understanding go hand-in-hand.

A very thoughtful piece this week, Linda. ‘ “I don’t think I was, either,” sighed the child.’ is particularly intriguing.

I love this, Linda. I, too, stopped at the child saying “I don’t think I am either…” How true that many do not see what’s right in front of them.
