Jesus Didn’t Need a Boat!

“At the conclusion of today’s sermon,” said Pastor Kelton, “I’d like to invite anyone who is interested to take a look at the pontoon behind the narthex, outside on the grass. It needs a little work. If you’d like to help restore this boat to usefulness, you will be welcome to join our family on excursions on the river.

“Now, let’s look at today’s passage. Turn to Matthew 14: 22-33 in your Bibles, and let’s look closely at the story of Jesus walking on the water. He didn’t need a pontoon!”

  1. That’s a nice story, Linda.

About 5 years ago, my husband accidentally purchased a $1500 pontoon boat online. He accidentally bought it on credit. That’s what he told me. “But it’s unsinkable!” he said, after his nonreturnable, nonrefundable, accidental purchase had arrived.

“You mean like the Titanic?” I asked. Crickets….

Like I said, that was 5 years ago. The unsinkable, accidental, $1500 pontoon boat has never been near a body of water. It’s just lying on its side in the back yard, leaning against the fence, fading in the sun.

And this, I’m sorry to say, is a true story.
