“Mommy, what are those . . . . balls?”
“They’re babies, Mark. They’re floating downstream to be claimed by their parents.”
“But . . . .is that how you and Daddy got me?”
“Yes.”
“But how did you know? They don’t have faces, or name tags!”
The right parents just find the right babies. It works.”
But what if no one finds their baby?”
“I, um, I’m not sure, Mark.”
“And why are there so many more girls than boys?”
“Mark, you ask too many questions. I don’t always know every answer.”
“But Mom—“
“Hush. Let’s get some ice cream.”
Nice try, Mom. Next he’ll tell his friends, “Guess what Mom told me…:” and the truth will out. 🙂
Good job with this challenging scene.

That’s funny, Christine :)Never thought about the kid passing on that information 🙂

Any parent who chides their son for asking too many questions deserves everything they’ve got coming. We need to ask questions. Lots more questions

Agreed.Finding answers can be wearying, though. I used to tell my kids, “Let me think about that for a while.”

“Let’s see if we can find the answer together” works pretty well

If she’s going to spin a yarn like that, she needs to think faster on her feet, maybe “It’s Friday, honey, you know, Femaleday. You can bet that there’ll be more blues on Maleday, I mean Monday” 😉

I wonder how she’ll explain when one of those eggs cracks open and it’s an ET baby? Just imagining the questions…

Dear Linda,
And Mark grew up with very skewed ideas about reproduction. 😉 I managed to be blessed with all blue ones. Cute story. I hope at some point Mom might have a more realistic talk with her son. Nonetheless you left me smiling.

Rochelle

Perhaps each pod has a GPS tag. And more girls were ordered because little boys ask too many questions?
Children are good with question after question. It’s a gift to nurture, it’s how we think outside the box for answers.

My kids, all adults over 40, are still inquisitive. I love it.

Yes, you can go on providing answers for just so long. The questions are never ending.

What a great conversation, so real. I bet she wishes she’d never started that one.
And the miracle solution – ‘Let’s get some ice cream.’ Such a lovely exchange between the two.

I used to look up everything for my goddaughter before she had her own phone, and I told her to look it up. I was equally shocked and proud when she told me she knew what “fetish” meant.

“Look it up” became my standard response when I was teaching. Kids need to learn to do their own investigating.

Once the questions start coming, they just keep on coming! Great take on the prompt. 🙂
