“Shhh! Here they come with their dratted spotlight! Why can’t they just leave us alone?”
“Foolish humans, thinking they can trap us. Never have. Never will.”
“You lot over there, you need to separate and blink off, or the fools will see you! Right now!”
“Let’s play a bit. Tease them. Blink off and on, go high and let them catch your light, then wink out. It drives them crazy!”
The faeries played their games, leading the hunters in circles until morning light made their lights invisible.
“Another good night’s work,” laughed one.

Neil, I wasn’t actually thinking of Zing and Zang, but sure, why not?

Dear Linda,
Those fairies are sneaky critters, aren’t they? Cute story.

All my reading, when I was very young, led me to believe that fairies are full of mischief. And then, you know, there was Tinkerbelle 🙂

I love this, such well organized fairies. If humans are stupid enough to try to catch them, they deserve any mischief they get.

at first, it was zing and zang and their gangs playing the humans for fools. but faeries would do as well. 🙂

You’re not the first to mention Zing and Zang. Maybe it’s time for me to dust off my two little aliens 🙂

At least their hi-jinks keep the hunters busy and distracted from shooting any poor animals 🙂

Well, that’s a thought. Fairies can certainly be tricky 🙂

Faeries, unlike mere fairies(They’re the amateurs) are notoriously tricky and deceitful

Yes, there is a difference. I often forget to spell it appropriately.

Faeries, unlike mere fairies, are way too dangerous

Those are pretty determined hunters, to follow them all night. Must be paranormal investigators. Sounds like a good set up for a novel. 🙂

They could be like ghost hunters, who hunt all night and sleep in the daytime. Maybe they’re hoping to find a pot of gold hidden in the faery neighborhood 🙂

Looks like fairies are no better than goblins!😊

Could be 🙂 To me, the word “goblin” brings up nightmaris images. Faeries are usually seen as more benign, but some to the folk legends show differently.

I’ll always root for faeries in such situations. In fact, had seen fairy lights in the picture myself too, but my story went in another direction 🙂

You portrayed the scene vividly. I could imagine the hunters traipsing round in circles – although I confess, my hunters carried hip flasks of whisky!
