Present
Write a new post in response to today’s one-word prompt.
***************
Did you mean present, as in “I’m here”? Or, as in the present time, being right now? Or are we talking about a gift, as in a Christmas present? Or is the emphasis on the second syllable, as in “I’m going to present you with this award”?
Good grief.
No wonder people who didn’t grow up speaking English think English is the hardest language in the world to learn.
Even some native English speakers get confused.
An unknown presenter presents a present to someone else who is also present at the present time.

Good one! I beleive people stopped understanding the English language the minute cell phones, Facebook, Instagram, and God help us -texting was invented. :-). @sheilamgood at Cow Pasture Chronicles

There seem to be so many words like that. Do we need more words in our language to make those fine distinctions? Oh, wait…do you mean…
“An unknown donor gives a gift to someone else who’s also here now.” 🙂

🙂 Nope. New words would be about as useless as new gun laws.

New gun laws? I was under the impression you folks didn’t have any gun laws. Just from reading the news, you know. I must have misunderstood. 🙂

Plenty of gun laws. More than enough. And how’s that working for us? Sp why, please tell me, we need MORE? We can’t keep criminals from getting guns. Not gonna happen.

Sad to say, there are too many sellers of all manner of illegal goods everywhere. I read an interesting historical tidbit one time that in NYC the number of speak-easies selling illegal booze during Prohibition was about twice the number of official bars selling liquor just before that law were enacted. Human nature strikes again. 😦
