“What is THAT?” Zing’s voice trembled. The thing was three times taller than he was. It had two golden eyes that burned into his soul.
“I don’t know, but I think we should bow,” answered Zang. “You know, show some respect.”
As evening shadows gathered, Zing and Zang gazed up to the face of the thing, wondering what to do next. Without warning, it flared into a globe of light, and a low humming issued from it.
Zing and Zang trembled. They tried to hide behind each other.
“Wait!” said Zing. “Listen!”
“You are doing well. Be careful of humans.”
Not the greatest of recon team. This was good fun, Linda. Btw, quite few of us (including me) have begun this week’s story with ‘what’s that’

Yes, I noticed that too. Perhaps if I’d read others before I wrote mine I would have begun differently, but I try never to do that. Don’t want to be influenced by what others have written 🙂

Dear Linda,
Good advice. Be careful of humans. Be VERY careful. Imaginative story.

Thanks, Rochelle. Humans are, after all, the biggest danger to other humans!

I’m reminded of the Biblical tale of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and how they survived even being thrown into a furnace because they didn’t bow to an idol.

Reconnaissance for Zing and Zang sounds more like a visit to the zoo than a serious military operation. I think they’re lulling us into a valid sense of security.
Loved the entertaining take on the prompt, Linda!

You know, I haven’t really even visualized these guys yet. I’m beginning to “see” their personalities, and possibly their physical appearance. But I don’t know if they’re little, green, invisible to humans, or anything else about them. Should be interesting to see how they develop.

at least they are two! Together they will be clever enough to avoid disaster!

Recon for aliens must be so tricky, not knowing who — or what — to talk to! Interesting take on the prompt. I hope we’ll see even more of Zing and Zang in the future!

Definitely. I’ve grown rather attached to them 🙂

Could’ve picked a nice way to warn them, I think.

I am visualizing Zing and Zang as two bumbling sleeper cell agents from an alien planet, and the lamppost as their supervisor who has come to take a report from them. I don’t think he’s going to be very happy with what they have to say 🙂

Awww, “bumbling”? Well, maybe. I’m not sure yet. Time will tell.

„Sleeper cell agent“ ? You mean the cell of the human body???

No no no, as in sleeper cell of aliens, who infiltrated us long ago and have been living among us without us realizing it.

Ahhh, this really interesting I would like to know more about this. Why do you think the chef is not satisfied? Hmmm I painted ones two aliencharacter which are really like these two…

Anie, in espionage, a sleeper cell is a group of people who appear to go about leading normal lives until they are ordered by their handlers to take action.

ohhh, hahaha, …so i mean exciting. I just have to laugh, because about 20 times a day I feel like I’m out of this world, as little as I understand. Thank you Granonine for the explanation …. that is indeed very exciting!

Hmm, I do not really agree, I think. What do they see anyway? Not a human, but the street light? I reject a fundamental skepticism personally, because I do not want to think of an evil purpose.
LikeLiked by 1 person
The streetlight has become a sentient being. He has some observation or authority over Zing and Zang, and warns them to be careful. They are, after all, not human–and they do not have experience yet, I’m thinking. This is all developing slowly, Anie, and I think it will continue to do so as I use these two characters in upcoming prompts.

thank you so much for explaining granonine, this is very kind. Yes of course as you will go on with the two, you have to go slowly…I´m really curious and I like the two…hopefully I will not misss too much over chistmas, because I´ll be not at home and only short times online….

I love this line. Not many aliens are shown in a good light. I think Zing and Zang should audition for Doctor Who. They would be great.
