This is an automatic connection in my mind.My parents drank nothing but Folger’s coffee, but they enjoyed this Maxwell House commercial. Younger people today don’t even know what it is to percolate coffee, I suppose. Here’s how it was done:
Wow, this is new to me.

It will be for lots of people under the age of maybe 40 or so. I don’t know how long ago the first Mr. Coffee was introduced, making the coffee pot obsolete.

Oh, That makes perfect sense. I am in my twenties and my parents didn’t make coffee at home – that explains it 🙂

I remember that commercial and I remember my mom’s stovetop percolator. I use an electric percolator – it keeps the coffee much hotter than those drip machines and it seems to extract a richer flavor. Of course, after a special meal I use my french press…. mmmm.

We were gifted with an electric percolator when we got married. I still use it. One young lady who was a guest for dinner looked at it and asked me what it was 🙂

FYI: The first Mr. Coffee appeared in 1972, and was an instant hit. I was 25. I’m 69 now. So it really WAS a long time ago 🙂

I’ve seen the electric ones, but not sure if you can get the kind that was put on the stove. I remember those days well! 🙂

Thrift stores, antique shops. All kinds of old-fashioned goodies there 🙂

We use an electric perc because the drip coffeemakers just don’t seem to get the coffee hot enough for us.

I agree, Robin. I almost always put my mug in the microwave for one minute just to get it hotter 🙂
