Red Pill, Blue Pill
If you could get all the nutrition you needed in a day with a pill — no worrying about what to eat, no food preparation — would you do it?
Let me think a minute. Trade a pill for chocolate? Bacon? Fresh bread with real butter? Pot roast? Ice cream? Perfectly cooked veggies? Apple pie? Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner?
Maybe now and then on a very busy day, or when I’m really sick of trying to figure out what to cook. But not every day, not even most of the time. Food is a source of pleasure on many levels. The color, flavor, aroma, texture–all are part of the dining experience. Friends and family often gather around food. Dating often starts with a meal shared with someone new and special. How would it be, for instance, to say, “Would you like to have your nutritional blue pill with me some evening soon?”
Nah. The ambience is definitely missing.
I think I’ll stay with food.
